Safe Environment Procedures

In an effort to guard the safety of Vulnerable Persons who we may encounter, those serving at St. Edward Catholic Church must be in compliance with Archdiocese of Miami Safe Environment Procedures. All parish personnel, ages 18 and older, including applicants offered a position, independent contractors and those serving with or having access to Vulnerable Persons are required to complete this process. With ongoing compliance monitored by staff, there is no cost to the individual for any of these requirements.

  • Complete the appropriate criminal background process, including a fingerprint background check, and receive clearance from the Archdiocese of Miami Office of Safe Environment.
  • Complete the Pledge to Promote Safe Environment and VIRTUS training.
  • Covered Volunteers are required to complete the Pledge to Promote Safe Environment and VIRTUS training.
  • Complete monthly training bulletin articles for ongoing VIRTUS compliance.

Due to the dynamic interaction that often occurs at our parish, the following persons are required to maintain compliance:

  • Serving as an adult Liturgical Minister of any kind
  • Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Lectors, Sacristans, Ushers
  • Serving as a member of the Music Ministry
  • Serving as a Ministry Leader or Co-Leader
  • Serving within the Offertory Counter Ministry
  • Serving as an adult within the Religious Education Program
  • Assistants, Security, Teachers
  • Serving in the Gift Store

Recognizing that each individual is created by God, the Archdiocese of Miami is committed to the safety and well-being of its children and vulnerable adults and implements procedures to minimize risk and barriers and to build and foster a culture of safe environment. The Archdiocese does not tolerate abuse or neglect of anyone. It will comply with all obligations of civil and canon law; it will promote healing where it is needed, provide education, training and guidance when it is appropriate, and endeavor to prevent any abuse of minors or vulnerable adults with firm justice and mercy towards all.
